I was in the final draft stages of my PhD on doctor identity and impact on patient safety when I did the Cranlana symposium, Medicine and Society. I actually made changes to parts of it to reflect the thinking I’d done after that weekend, which was pretty profound. I mean, I’d been writing and researching the thesis for 13 years, so to go to that stage and still be tweaking my thought processes made me understand how thought provoking Cranlana really was.
