Very few people set out to be dishonest, but working within a culture which rewards or at the very least turns a blind eye to rule-bending can make make small transgressions seem unimportant. And if they lead to a promotion, or a bonus, then the means can become less important than the end. However there will always be a reckoning, the impacts of which could be substantial in terms of damage to reputation and brand – personal and organisational. Maintaining your integrity in environments such as these takes courage and resilience. Having a solid ethical framework within which to make decisions will prepare you to meet the challenges, seen and unforeseen, in your career.
