Comment from Penny Wong
Brilliant speech this week at Cranlana on US-Australian alliance – with this fine comment at the end.
“When you run for parliament, I know most of us actually do run because we want to do the right thing, we want to try and contribute. Sometimes you do better, sometimes you do not-so-well.
We went through a very hyper-partisan period in this country and one of the consequences of that was a real dumbing down of the political debate, and an absence of reflection and discussion. There is disagreement but there needs also to be a contest of ideas and a contest of views – the Socratic method, I think.
So I really want to thank the Cranlana Programme for trying to inculcate a bit more wisdom in leadership. I think the country needs it.”
