It’s Time to Break Up Facebook
Courage. It’s at the heart of every important decision. Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook, published an op-ed in The New York Times outlining his concerns with the company’s size and influence. He did not bring up these issues with anyone at the company yet, in conversation on The Daily podcast, acknowledged “I should have….I wish I had. I wish I had had both the courage and foresight to do that. I don’t know if it really would have changed anything but I’d feel better about myself.” In his op-ed piece Chris notes “I take responsibility for not sounding the alarm earlier. Don Graham, a former Facebook board member, has accused those who criticize the company now as having “all the courage of the last man leaping on the pile at a football game.”” To effectively respond to the realities of the contemporary business and political environment leaders need to actively engage in building their moral agency, to know what they stand for, and what they will allow.
